in a co-dependent dynamic\u2014whether with a partner, friend, or even a family member.<\/p>\n

Co-dependency can often be subtle, but one of the biggest red flags is when you consistently prioritize someone else\u2019s needs over your own. If you find yourself feeling drained, unfulfilled, or overly responsible for another person\u2019s well-being, it might be time to reassess your boundaries.<\/p>\n

Here are 10 signs that you may be in a co-dependent relationship:<\/p>\n

1.You do things for your partner that they should be doing for themselves.
\n2.You frequently give in to their wants or needs, yet silently feel frustrated or resentful.
\n3.You have a pattern of choosing partners with unresolved emotional or personal issues.
\n4.You take responsibility for their actions or mistakes.
\n5.You constantly talk about their problems, often more than your own\u2014this is a huge red flag.
\n6.Their mood dictates your own, and you find yourself worrying about their feelings constantly.
\n7.You feel an overwhelming need to know what they are thinking or doing at all times.
\n8.You habitually put their needs ahead of your own, often to your own detriment.
\n9.You struggle to identify or express your own emotions.
\n10.You rarely make decisions without first checking in with them for approval or validation.<\/p>\n

Renowned author Melody Beattie, who wrote Co-Dependent No More, brought awareness to this issue decades ago. I was fortunate to study under her when this movement was gaining momentum in 1986. Even then, it became clear to me that most relationships, to some degree, involve elements of co-dependency. <\/p>\n

Now, nearly 35 years later, I continue to help my clients navigate this challenge by guiding them toward healthier, more independent connections. Learning how to separate yourself from unhealthy attachments\u2014without completely severing the bond\u2014is key to maintaining a balanced, fulfilling relationship. The goal is interdependence, where both partners support each other without losing their own identity.<\/p>\n
