In modern folklore cultures ghosts are seen as a good thing, kind of like a \u201cblast from the past\u201d from your respected, albeit dead, family members. In certain cultures ghosts are revered. Countries such as Japan, Korea, and China all have celebrations where ghosts are celebrated. And don\u2019t forget All Saint\u2019s Day and Halloween, which may have become more commercial of late, but were initially created to celebrate the spirits and souls of the dead.<\/p>\n

Mexico\u2019s Day of the Dead is a popular global holiday that focuses on gathering friends and families to pray for and remember the dead. It\u2019s a three day celebration that starts on October 31 and goes until the 2nd of November, thus comprising Halloween and All Saint\u2019s Day. Traditionally families go to the cemeteries to build private altars honouring the deceased and decorate them with sugar skulls, flowers and the favourite foods of the departed. The intent is to encourage visits by the souls, to connect with them. But it\u2019s not all tears and pounding of chests! These celebrations can have a humorous tone as friends and family remember funny anecdotes about the departed and have a good laugh!<\/p>\n

That said, due to the increase in scary movies that revolve around ghost stories, more and more people fear the idea of ghosts.
